2015 Fellowship Winner
The National Association of EMS Physicians® (NAEMSP®) and Physio-Control, the world leader in emergency medical response technologies, announce Michael Bohanske, MD, as the winner of the NAEMSP® / Physio-Control EMS Medicine Medical Director Fellowship.
The purpose of the fellowship is to train individuals for a career as a clinically focused EMS medical director who is board-certified in EMS medicine, to expand the commitment of academic institutions to EMS medicine as a subspecialty and to graduate a fellow with a passion for EMS leadership on a national level.
Dr. Bohanske has been dedicated to EMS for 10 years. What began as a job teaching basic first aid quickly grew into a passion for the treatment of critically-ill patients, and a respect for the providers able to achieve this in resource-limited environments. For the last three years, Dr. Bohanske has worked as an Assistant Medical Director for two local fire-based EMS organizations and served as a Flight Physician for a hospital-based HEMS service. These experiences providing care in the field, teaching continuing education, and performing quality reviews solidified his commitment to the field of EMS.
Dr. Bohanske: "I am very honored to be presented with this prestigious award and grant from NAEMSP® and Physio Control. As a medical student, I had the pleasure of giving a brief oral presentation at the NAEMSP® meeting in Fort Myers. I was amazed by the caliber of the program and the EMS physicians involved. The experience solidified my career goals to advance the specialty of EMS. I will utilize my fellowship training and award to continue to pursue this goal of becoming the best possible EMS physician."
The 12-month, $80,000 fellowship will cover related training and education costs. Fellowship applicants were judged by a selection committee based on their potential for a career as an EMS medical director and to become a national leader in the EMS field. The award was presented at the 2015 NAEMSP® Annual Meeting (January 22-24, New Orleans, La.).
