| EMS Medical Director Joseph R. Cline MD FACEP The Department of Emergency Health Sciences (EHS) in the School of Allied Health Sciences at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA) is seeking: Medical Director for City of San Antonio Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services The Department of EHS is the contracted provider of initial and continuing EMS education, QA and Performance Improvement, infection control, and online and offline medical control for the SAFD and EMS. SAFD EMS provides pre-hospital emergency service to a population of 1.2 million people, responding to approximately 120,000 calls for service annually. The Department of EHS employs 17 faculty (RNs and Paramedics) who educate paramedics, present CE programs, evaluate SAFD personnel, serve as online medical control, provide infection control services, and ALS/BLS education coordination. This Medical Director position will be a full-time appointment with academic rank through the Dept of EHS at UTHSCSA. Board certification by ABEM is required with strong clinical and teaching skills. Preference given to EMS fellowship trained or administrative experience in a large urban EMS system. Responsibilities include: medical oversight of SAFD system including education, online medical control, and QA/PI; teaching in CE programs; medical direction for the EHSA Department at the University, participation in University EHS teaching, service and research; service on local, regional and national committees; active participation in field evaluations; minimum practice at University Hospital Emergency Center (Level 1 trauma center) with cross academic appointment at UTHSCSA, Dept of Surgery, Division of Emergency Medicine. UTHSCSA Faculty appointment will be on the clinical track with a rank commensurate with credentials and experience. Chief Medical Officer Responsible for ensuring strong medical staff relationships and providing physician input to hospital administrators. Also provides input to Administration on projects and issues such as Hospitalists, ED Call issues, Trauma Level II issues, and Patient Focused Care development. He/she will maintain some clinical practice as a member of a relevant clinical department. The CMO will provide for medical staff development through programs such as the Physician Leadership Academy, and may assist, if needed, in the planning and execution of leadership retreats. The CMO will, with input from MEC, supervises the Medical Staff office with a focus on patient care quality and safety. Assists the Chief of Staff on an as-needed basis and assists with recruitment as directed by the MEC. History of leadership in organization of Medical Staff and/or administrative structure required. Current license as M.D. or D.O. required. Embodies the six important leadership traits - Accountable: Considers medical staff and medical executive committee input for upward reviews and encourages physicians to communicate with the CEO regarding CMO-related feedback. Available: Conducts outreach to multiple constituencies and invites physician input. Clinically Current: Maintains some clinical practice as a member of relevant clinical department. Effective: Controls desirable resources and creates desirable hospital leadership positions. Responsive: Delivers solutions to medical staff and oversees physician complaint resolution. Transparent: Considers both physician and hospital administrator perspectives fairly and reports to medical staff on decision-making process.

FULL TIME POSITION EMS MEDICAL DIRECTOR
A unique opportunity for an EMS Physician to become FULL TIME Medical Director!
The System: A two-county EMS System in eastern mid-Michigan, nice blend of urban, suburban, and rural areas. Heterogeneous tiered design, 4 acute care hospitals with 5 EDs. 15 non-transp MFR/BLS, 5 transp BLS and ALS, (1 predominant ALS agency covering most of the system) and 2 helicopters. MCA actively involved in region, serves as an important “medical hub” for catchment area.
The Position: Full time EMS position. 4 personnel in MCA office lead by Med Dir. Core faculty of EM residency with academic rank through MSU, responsible for EMS portion curriculum. Clinicals in 2 community ED training sites. BC\BP EM, eligible for faculty appointment at MSU, with completed EMS fellowship or equivalent extensive EMS experience.
