Assistant EMS Medical Director

Emergency Medicine Physicians (EMP) is seeking an osteopathic Assistant EMS Medical Director for Doctors Hospital in Columbus, OH. This position will be instrumental in the growth of the EMS services at Doctors and the with the development of an EMS Fellowship program for physicians.

Doctors is a respected, 256-bed osteopathic teaching hospital that represents all major specialties. Academic affiliation is with the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine. Award winning emergency medicine training program hosts 36 residents who often have the highest in-service exam scores nationally; faculty have won ACOEP and ACEP awards for teaching and leadership. Recently named to Thompson Reuters 100 Top Hospitals 2009 list. Teaching includes bedside and didactic activities, with residents in the department 24 hours per day. Research/publication options are available as well.

Active in EMS, Doctors physicians serve as advisors for two fire departments, six squads, and plans include the addition of two more squads and local law enforcement in the near future.

A brand-new, 57 bed ED will open in early Summer 2010, and will see approximately 70,000 patients annually. Patient pathology is broad, and 11% are admitted. New electronic record system with computerized discharge, Micromedix, electronic physician-order system, and state of the art triage and tracking system augments efficiency and includes PC stations throughout the department.

EMP is a physician-owned and -managed regional group providing equal equity ownership, equal voting and open books. We have an efficient physician management team and in-house support services including the most advanced billing, collections, malpractice, HR/benefits, legal, QA/risk management, physician services and recruiting. Each department exists to service our sites and physicians to maximize patient care, efficiency and profitability. Profits stay at the sites and are shared equally among the clinicians at each, and we currently have thirty-six locations in Connecticut, Illinois, New York, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.

Job Summary: Eastern New Mexico University, a comprehensive institution located in Portales, NM, is seeking applicants for a full time Director of EMS/EMS faculty (¾ teaching load, ¼ administrative release for Program Director). Division Director, Emergency Medical Services (EMS)

The Department of Emergency Medicine (EM) at Penn State Hershey Medical Center is seeking an EM-trained, board-certified or prepared physician who has completed a fellowship or has equivalent experience in EMS to join our faculty and serve as division director.  Responsibilities include medical command, quality improvement, education & training and strategic direction.

The Section of Prehospital and Disaster Medicine is seeking emergency medicine faculty to join its team of EMS fellowship trained physicians. Our faculty provide medical leadership for several ground and air emergency medical services systems in the greater Atlanta area and create and lead education and research initiatives in out-of-hospital care and community disaster resilience.

 

The Section faculty and fellows provide medical oversight for the primary 911-ambulance responder in Atlanta and Fulton County, fire department first responders, 6 medical helicopters, a TEMS unit, and a biosafety transport service which supports CDC and Hartsfield-Jackson International airport.

 

Emory participates in the NETT and is home to CARES. Opportunities exist to collaborate with Emory’s Preparedness and Emergency Response Research Center, Center for Injury Control, and NIH funded traumatic brain injury research team.

The Wichita-Sedgwick County Emergency Medical Services System (EMSS) is seeking a full-time medical director. The EMSS includes emergency medical dispatchers, two large and several smaller fire departments providing BLS first response and an ambulance service proving ALS response and transportation. Our system responds to about 50,000 medical calls per year in a served community of 460,000 people

The medical director will provide on-line and off line medical control, oversee, guide and ensure the fidelity of provider training, clinical practice and QA/QI programs. Our aspiration is to have medical director who can continue to lead us on our journey to be a fully integrated, clinically excellent and operationally efficient, patient-centered EMSS.

Requirements for the position:

  • Board certified in critical care medicine as recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties.
  • Routinely involved in the active management of critically ill or injured patients
  • Have three years experience as a medical director in a pre-hospital setting
  • Have demonstrated active involvement in BLS/ALS training
  • Have demonstrated active involvement in and understanding of pre-hospital QA/QI processes.

Desired qualifications:

  • A passion for pre-hospital care
  • Completion of an EMS fellowship program and/or;
    Completion of the NAEMSP medical director’s course.
  • Compensation Range: $160-180,000 DOE, comprehensive benefits package

2010 EMS FELLOWSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT

The State University of New York at Buffalo, Department of Emergency Medicine is seeking applicants for the following Fellowship programs.  Clinical experience for the fellowship is based in our busy Level 1 Trauma Center with an aggressive 24/7 PCI program and a strong ED ultrasound program.

 National Registry of EMTs Board of Directors

Announces At-Large EMS Physician Opening

The National Registry of EMTs (NREMT) has an EMS Physician-At-Large position available on their Board of Directors.

The NREMT serves as the Nations EMS Certification providing services to 45 states and the U.S. Military.  Standards of entry-level competency and recertification requirements for all levels of EMS providers are established by the NREMT Board.  The NREMT is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA). 

The Board meets twice a year in June and November.  Board members are also assigned to one subcommittee which typically meets once every two years.  All reasonable and customary expenses for Board activities are paid by the NREMT.  For more information on the NREMT, its mission and services visit www.nremt.org

Assistant EMS Medical Director

Located just to the north of Houston, TX, Harris County ESD 1 is a progressive EMS serving a district of over 500,000 citizens and 176 square miles.  Harris County ESD 1 is a “911” emergency service organization which also provides critical care transportation services to higher level hospitals, assists law enforcement agencies by providing tactical medical support, and operates an “urgent care” clinic. 

Description of Duties

Harris County ESD 1 is currently seeking applicants for an Assistant EMS Medical Director position. The Assistant EMS Medical Director will aid in the daily activities of Harris County ESD 1’s 911 emergency response services, tactical emergency medical support, critical care transports, and urgent care clinic as delegated by the Medical Director.  Duties may also include continuous quality improvement, on-scene medical direction, and clinical supervision, as well as other duties assigned by the Medical Director.  


Minimum Requirements

All applicants must hold a M.D./D.O. from a college/university accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education.  BC/BE in Emergency Medicine and EMS Fellowship Training or EMS experience is preferred.  Licensure to practice medicine in the State of Texas must be obtained within the first six months of the appointment.    

Command Structure

The Assistant Medical Director reports directly to the Harris County ESD 1Medical Director.
