The National Association of EMS Physicians (NAEMSP®) Foundations of Medical Oversight (FOMO) course provides practicing and future medical directors with knowledge essential to the provision of quality medical oversight.
Built on the principle that the ultimate goal of medical oversight is to improve community health, the course covers the system issues and clinical care considerations that impact this role.
Topics covered include system design and response, credentialing and training of EMS providers, clinical care and quality improvement. In addition, there is a state-specific section on legislation and regulation as it impacts EMS. The course is approved for 6.5 AMA Category 1 credits.

Host a Course for Your State
In 2021, NAEMSP provided a meeting to discuss the course. The session provided an overview of course design and outlined NAEMSP’s plan for course dissemination. The logistics of course administration were covered as well. We encourage state chapter leadership and others interested in administering the course to watch this recording.
Instruction is provided by a team of EMS physicians from NAEMSP® but can transition to being presented by trained local EMS physician leaders in a train-the-trainer approach and welcomes the assistance of state and/or local EMS offices in conveying the pertinent state and local EMS regulations.
