Viral Hemorrhagic Fever

The viral hemorrhagic fevers include: Ebola, Marburg, Lassa and Yellow fever. Some of these illnesses can result from the contact of an infected insect, rodent or other animal while the etiology is yet unknown for others. The illness begins with cold and flu symptoms with fever and myalgias and progresses to: prostration, petechial hemorrhages, hypotension, shock, respiratory failure and central nervous system depression. Treatment is supportive including blood transfusions and currently vaccine only is available for Yellow Fever.
