It is expected that the applicant will meet all qualifications for American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) EMS subspecialty certification.

1. Diplomate in good standing of any American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) or Bureau of Osteopathic Specialists (BOS)
2. The physician must be in compliance with the ABEM or American Osteopathic Association (AOA) Policy on Medical Licensure. Licenses must be valid, full, unrestricted and unqualified, except for current fellows of ACGME accredited programs who may possess an educational or temporary license.
3. Completion of ACGME fellowship at the time of initiation of the award
4. Current NAEMSP membership
5. Initiation of award within first 5 years post fellowship training.
6. Affiliation with healthcare system and/or academic institution
7. Affiliation with EMS system
8. Identification of mentor

• Before submitting the application, the candidate must identify a mentor who will supervise the proposed career development experience. The mentor on this career award serves to supervise the candidate’s proposed career development experience.
• The mentor should be an active EMS Medical Director.
• The mentor should be committed both to the candidate’s career development plan and to the direct supervision of the candidate’s plan.

• Only online applications are accepted.
• All questions must be answered and supporting documentation uploaded to the NAEMSP® electronic submission site.
• November 15 submission deadline is firm. No exceptions.

• Curriculum Vitae
• Three letters of recommendation uploaded as part of the completed application.
  • One letter of support from the applicant’s mentor, speaking to impact and feasibility.
  • Two additional letters of support from both the Academic Institution/Healthcare System and the EMS agency the applicant will be affiliated with during the award period.
• Interrogative and affirmed attestation statements.
• Workplan outlining clearly the goals and objectives, as well as proposed timeline for completion.

• Each applicant will be judged based on his/her potential for a career as an EMS medical director and potential to become a national leader in EMS.
• Applications must outline clearly the goals and objectives of the project. 
• The Award is designated for the successful applicant and dispersed to the academic or healthcare institution.

• Award is for 24 months of contiguous support.
• Award will be issued July 1 of each year for $30,000 to the institution/healthcare system. (Total funding of $60,000 over 2 years)
• Award is intended to support the applicant’s career development activities.
  • No funds may be used for facilities and administrative costs (“indirects”).
  • No funds may be used for mentorship salary, secretarial support, equipment, or vehicle costs.
  • No funds may be used retrospectively.  Funds may only support ongoing and future work. 
  • Funds may be used to support the applicant’s salary and benefits.
  • Funds may be used for educational activities (e.g., course work, conferences, or travel expenses).
• Prior to dispersal of funds, applicant or institution must submit a 24-month budget to NAEMSP® for final approval.

• Attend the NAEMSP® Annual Meeting.
• Maintain NAEMSP® membership in good standing.
• Provide 1- and 2-year progress reports that can be shared with the industry sponsor and NAEMSP Annual Report.
• Visit the industry sponsors, at their invitation, for a mutually educational exchange of ideas and information.

• Selection of an award recipient will prioritize career development activities that develop skills as an EMS medical director and/or EMS physician.
• The award is not intended to support a formal research project.
• The work plan should align with the activities outlined in the proposed 24-month budget, which may include salary support, educational activities, or both (i.e., non-exclusive).
• If funds will be allocated to salary support for a position (e.g., as EMS medical director or associate EMS medical director), describe the goals and objectives, responsibilities, and activities of the position, as well as a proposed timeline for career development within that position.
• If funds will be allocated to a project or educational activities, describe the goals and objectives, as well as a proposed timeline for completion of the project or educational activities.
