The Division of Prehospital Medicine at the University of Rochester seeks a physician board-certified/board-eligible in both Emergency Medicine and EMS to join our dynamic EMS program.

The successful candidate will join a consortium of 7 physicians and 4 support staff that provide medical oversight to more than 100 services across a multi-county area of the Finger Lakes Region of New York. Serving a population of nearly a million across urban, suburban, and rural areas, the Division works with career and volunteer fire-based first response agencies; volunteer, non-profit, municipal, and for-profit ambulance services; law enforcement; government; Public Safety Answering Points; special teams (Hazmat, Technical Rescue, and SWAT); ground and rotor-wing critical care transport programs; and a paramedic training program.

Specific responsibilities include 20% effort protected for EMS Medical Direction and leadership of the Division’s EMS rotation for a range of learners (medical students, residents, fellows, and others). Additional opportunities abound for the candidate
interested in various subspecialty aspects of EMS Medicine and both academic and operational opportunities as an EMS physician.


The University of Rochester Department of Emergency Medicine staffs seven hospitals including a free-standing emergency department, three rural access hospitals, two large community hospitals, and Strong Memorial Hospital which is the regional Level 1 Adult and Pediatric Trauma Center, Regional Burn Center, Comprehensive Stroke Center, and
sustains numerous clinical and research programs. In total, Department of Emergency
Medicine faculty touch nearly 500,000 lives a year.
