Boston EMS

Position: Associate Medical Director, Boston EMS, and EMS Fellowship Director and Attending Emergency Medicine Physician, Department of Emergency Medicine Boston Medical Center and Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine.

Boston Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine (BUCAMED) are seeking to recruit a board-certified Emergency Medicine Physician for the position of Associate Medical Director, Boston EMS. Clinical time will be spent at Boston Medical Center (BMC), Department of Emergency Medicine with an academic appointment at BUCAMED.

The ideal candidate for this position is Fellowship Trained and Board Certified in Emergency Medicine and EMS and is qualified and ready to serve as Associate Medical Director of Boston EMS and as EMS Fellowship Director. Additional experience and training in Disaster Preparedness and Disaster management could lead to additional opportunities within the Department and the Medical Center.

As a bureau of the Boston Public Health Commission, Boston EMS bridges the gap between public health and public safety and plays an important role in the medical aspects of the City of Boston’s pre-hospital preparedness. The ideal applicant will have experience working in a pre-hospital setting with qualifications to provide medical direction for local EMS, as well as interface with hospital, state and federal partners.

Boston EMS is a nationally recognized leader, educator, and innovator in the field of pre-hospital emergency medicine and provides both BLS and ALS clinical care training. In addition, EMS education includes simulation training, quality assurance work, administrative duties, and emergency response training. As Associate Medical Director of Boston EMS, dedicate a significant amount of time to EMS-related duties.

The position requires the ability to handle multiple aspects within a diverse and very busy urban EMS public safety arena and additional responsibilities include off-hours training, field clinical time, special events coverage, emergency management, and academic/research opportunities with other duties as necessary.

At BMC we have an on-site an emergency cardiac catheterization lab, stroke center, and a separate pediatric emergency medicine unit. BMC is a level-one trauma center and the primary teaching affiliate for BUCAMED with an established Emergency Medicine residency program that includes 48 residents annually. Research efforts are supported by a dedicated research section in the Department of Emergency Medicine at BMC.

Preferred Qualifications: Board Certified in EMS, Fellowship Trained and/or significant scholarly and leadership experience in the area of interest.
