April Update from the President

April 10, 2026

Greetings,

It has been an exciting spring thus far., and I would like to update everyone on a few exciting announcements.

Thank you to our members who took two days from their busy schedules to discuss the issues of EMS physicians, EMS clinicians, and EMS agencies with members of Congress in March. This year, NAEMSP joined NAEMT and other EMS stakeholder groups in Washington DC to discuss our Bill (H.R.3443) as well as legislation supporting a study of payment for treatment-in-place and proposed grant funds for mobile integrated healthcare. EMS On-the-Hill 2026 had over 300 participants, breaking the record for the most attendees ever at this event

We received some excellent news this week. After the abrupt termination of all members of the National EMS Advisory Council (NEMSAC) in the fall of 2025, we are happy that new members have been selected and NEMSAC will again become functional to continue its important work. NEMSAC plays a vital role in advising the federal government on issues related to EMS. I am thrilled that 10 of the 25 members of this new council are current NAEMSP members. Our members serving on this new NEMSAC and the subset of EMS that they are chosen to represent include: Keith McMinn (Air Medical EMS), Juan Mejias (Data Management Officials), Dustin Calhoun, MD (Emergency Management Officials), Nicholas Cozzi, MD (EMS Physicians), Angela Cornelius, MD (EMS Researchers), Bill Leggio, EdD (Hospital Administration), Shea Duerring, MD (Pediatric Emergency Physicians), Michael Thomas, Dr.PH (Private EMS), Jerrilyn Jones, MD (Public Health Officials), and Peter Fischer, MD (Trauma Surgeons). Congratulations to these members on their appointment.

Spring brings us a renewed push for additional support in Congress for our House Bill and a new NEMSAC that will again take on issues of importance to our patients and EMS systems. The month of May will bring EMS Week and an opportunity for all NAEMSP members to thank our EMS clinicians for all that they do for our patients and our EMS systems.

Yours in EMS,

Doug
