The Department of Emergency Medicine at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Temple is currently recruiting a full-time academic Emergency Medicine & EMS physician. This full-time, employed position includes a faculty appointment at Baylor College of Medicine with protected time for EMS medical direction services, teaching, a competitive salary, performance bonus, comprehensive benefits package, and no state income tax. Candidates must be board-certified or board-eligible in Emergency Medicine and EMS Medicine. This position will be available in July 2025.
We are located in the city of Temple in beautiful central Texas, an hour north of Austin. We are an academic department with an Emergency Medicine residency entering its 32nd year. We have 42 Emergency Medicine residents and 36 faculty covering two Emergency Departments.
Our division of prehospital medicine currently employs three board-certified EMS physicians with the need for more EMS physician coverage. Our division provides EMS medical direction services for 5 counties in Central Texas spanning from the Waco area down into the Hill Country. We represent urban, suburban, rural and frontier EMS agencies and cover well over 1 million lives. We have a great blend of ground, air, critical care, fire based, ESD based, governmental and private EMS partners. Members of our division are actively involved in tactical medicine, disaster medicine, primary EMS education and critical care education. We are actively involved with the Texas Emergency Medical Task force and heavily involved in our Texas Chapter of National EMS Physicians and educating the legislature. We have plans to add an EMS fellowship, if approved, in the Spring of 2026.
Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Temple is our main site: a 48 bed ED, Level 1 Trauma – Certified Stroke – Tertiary Referral Center with 640 inpatient beds, an 81 bed ICU, and an ED annual census of 80,000 visits. Our hospital was ranked #1 in the Fortune Top Teaching Hospitals in 2023.
Baylor Scott & White McLane Children’s Medical Center is a 20 bed ED, Level II Trauma Center for children with an annual census of 35,000 visits. We have 24/7 in-house PICU support and a pediatric clinic that houses nearly 40 specialties next door to the hospital. This ED is completely staffed by our faculty, both EM and PEM, supervising EM and pediatric residents.
